As Las Vegas Chapter President of the Appraisal
Institute, I was exposed to a variety of ideas and concepts at the chapter
president's orientation meeting in Chicago during December of 1999. Some
of the more interesting topics (at least to me) include the following:
 | Major modifications to USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal
Practice) called the "Market Value Initiative". Essentially
this initiative proposes classifying all appraisal reports as reports as
"Market Value" reports or as something other than market
value. Standards 1 and 2 will focus on "Market Value"
reports and additional Standards will focus on reports other than market
value. Standard 4 (Consulting) will be removed and replaced with
Ethics requirements focused on the use of recognized methods and techniques,
identification of the scope of the assignment, advocacy, disclosure,
competency, methods of compensation, and integrity. |
 | Major initiatives by the Appraisal Institute to enhance the practices of
its members including affiliation with e-appraiser,
OLA.COM, the residential database, and the
commercial database. For those that are members more information on
the residential database and the commercial database can be found on the
members section of the web site. |
 | New membership attraction at the associate and affiliate level has been
stressed as well as guiding existing candidates up the chain to an eventual
MAI designation. |
As the year progresses and my busy schedule mounts I hope that our members
take advantage of the new opportunities and services offered by our national
organization (The Appraisal Institute). I plan to stress our membership
recruitment drive this year. Those local members that wish to help out in
our recruitment efforts are encouraged to e-mail or contact me.
